Namibian highway crash kills 14, together with 11 correctional officers

LUSAKA, Zambia — Eleven members of the Namibia Correctional Service, a police officer and two civilians had been killed Saturday in a head-on collision within the nation’s south-central area, officers mentioned.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah mentioned the crash occurred on the B1 freeway close to Mariental, about 167 miles (270 kilometers) from the capital, Windhoek.

“My coronary heart goes out to the households who’ve misplaced their family members and to the women and men of the Namibia Correctional Service and the Namibian Police Pressure who’re mourning their colleagues. No phrases can actually seize the depth of this loss,” Nandi-Ndaitwah mentioned in an announcement.

The accident concerned a police van carrying six passengers — 5 officers and a civilian and a correctional service van with 13 individuals on board, in response to authorities.
