Saudi Nationwide Omar Yaghi Wins 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry
Saudi scientist Omar Yaghi, along with Susumu Kitagawa and Richard Robson, has gained the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for creating steel–natural frameworks (MOFs), the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences introduced on Wednesday.
In line with the Nobel Committee, the three scientists’ groundbreaking work on steel–natural frameworks—crystalline supplies with extraordinarily porous buildings—has given chemists essential instruments to unravel main international issues, equivalent to clear power storage and environmental sustainability.
The committee stated, “By way of the event of steel–natural frameworks, the laureates have supplied chemists with new alternatives for fixing a number of the challenges we face.”
The Nobel Prize in Chemistry, first awarded in 1901, comes with a prize of 11 million Swedish kronor (about $1.2 million).
The 2025 chemistry prize is the third Nobel announcement of the yr, following the medication and physics prizes revealed earlier this week.
The chemistry prize went to David Baker, John Jumper, and Demis Hassabis in 2024 for his or her work on predicting and designing protein buildings, which has modified how medicine are made as we speak.
